Fushimi Inari Shrine

Japan's most famous shrine with thousands of vermillion torii gates creating an mystical tunnel up Mount Inari.

Fushimi Inari Shrine is the head shrine of Inari, the Shinto god of rice and prosperity. Famous for its thousands of vermillion torii gates winding up the mountainside, creating an otherworldly tunnel of color that has become Japan's most iconic shrine image.

The shrine trail stretches 4 kilometers up Mount Inari, passing smaller shrines, mysterious fox statues (Inari's messengers), and offering spots. The full hike takes 2-3 hours and rewards with panoramic views of Kyoto.
