Attractions—Hanoi—Hanoi Old Quarter

Hanoi Old Quarter

Nearly 1,000-year-old quarter of 36 ancient trade streets, legendary street food, and the living heart of traditional Hanoi.

Historical Site★4.8

Hanoi's Old Quarter, known as the "36 Streets," dates back nearly 1,000 years. Each street was traditionally dedicated to a specific trade - Hang Bac (Silver), Hang Dao (Silk), Hang Gai (Hemp) - creating a fascinating living museum of Vietnamese commerce and culture.

The narrow streets burst with activity: street food vendors, traditional shops, tube houses, and small temples. Weekend pedestrian zones transform the area into a vibrant open-air market with performances, food stalls, and local entertainment.

Visitor Tips

  • 💡Best explored on foot - get lost intentionally
  • 💡Street food is safe at busy stalls - follow the locals
  • 💡Visit Dong Xuan Market for wholesale goods and local atmosphere
