Hoan Kiem Lake

The legendary heart of Hanoi with Ngoc Son Temple, the iconic red Huc Bridge, and the myth of the Golden Turtle returning the sacred sword.

Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as the Lake of the Restored Sword, is the heart of Hanoi. According to legend, Emperor Le Loi received a magical sword from the Golden Turtle God to drive out Chinese invaders, later returning it to the turtle in this lake.

The Ngoc Son Temple sits on a small island in the lake, connected to the shore by the iconic red Huc Bridge (Morning Sunlight Bridge). Early mornings see locals practicing tai chi, badminton, and traditional exercises around the lake.
